First Visit by Age 1
A healthy smile starts from a young age! The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that a child’s first dental visit should be by their first birthday. At this first lap visit, we will check for any early signs of tooth decay and answer any questions you may have about your child’s oral health. We will also provide tips on how to care for your baby’s teeth and gums. This early lap visit is important in establishing a good foundation for your child’s oral health.

Birth - 2 Years
Starting your child on the path to good oral health begins at birth. It is important to clean your baby’s gums after each feeding using a wet washcloth or gauze pad. As soon as their first tooth erupts, you can start using a toothbrush with water. Once they have two teeth that touch, you can start using fluoride toothpaste. Around age 2, most children are ready to start learning how to brush their own teeth. It is still important to help them and supervise until they are able to do it effectively on their own. Our pediatric dentists will also continue to monitor your child’s oral health and development and provide guidance on proper oral care habits.
3 - 5 Years (Preschool)
At 3 years old, most children have a few teeth — but that doesn’t mean they don’t need to see the dentist. While your child’s first few dental visits may be short and sweet, they are important for establishing good oral health habits. During these early years, our Stone Oak dentist will focus on teaching your child how to brush and floss their teeth properly. They will also assess your child’s risks for cavities and other problems. As your child grows, the focus will shift to preventive care, such as sealants and fluoride treatments.
6 - 11 Years
(Elementary School)
The elementary school years are a crucial time for developing healthy dental habits. It’s important for kids to develop a good relationship with their dentist during this time, so that they feel comfortable coming in for regular check-ups and cleanings. At our office, we focus on providing a fun and welcoming environment for kids of all ages. Our talented team of pediatric dentists are dedicated to making every visit a positive experience.
12 - 18 Years
(Adolescents/Teenagers)
The adolescent years can be a tough time for many kids. They’re dealing with changes in their bodies, as well as social and academic pressures. And on top of all that, they’re also trying to figure out who they are and where they fit in. It’s no wonder that so many kids dread going to the dentist during this time. However, pediatric dentists are specially trained to deal with the unique dental needs of adolescents. In addition to providing general dental care, they also offer expert advice on everything from braces to wisdom teeth. As a result, they can help make the dental journey a little bit easier for both kids and their parents.
